Four Perfect Pickmeisters
During Week 1, we had nine different players go 14-1. Unfortunately for them, there were four players who were 15-0, and who earned Weekly Pickmeister Awards. This is the 8th time SportsFan has earned the award, but his last award was in 2006, and it is the 7th time for byubob, who won his 6th award in Week 12 last season. The other two players both won for the 4th time - MWCFAN and SLC Transplant. Both of them won their 3rd award in Week 8 last year. Congratulations to the winners!
Division Leaders
After the first week of picks, byubob (15-0) has a one-game lead over four other players in the Top 25 division. SLC Transplant and SportsFan (both 15-0) are tied for first in the North division. Moose (13-2) has a one-game lead in the South, and MWCFAN (15-0) has a one-game lead in the West division.
Time to Send in Picks
You can now start sending in your picks for week 2. Please note, there are a few early games this week - both on Thursday, Sep. 9 and Friday, Sep. 10. As always, you have until kickoff to make your picks for each individual game. You can modify your picks at any time, as long as the game hasn't started. Good luck to everyone!

Notes from the 2009 Season
Last season, MWCFAN tied a Picks Club record for regular-season wins with 130. The other two players who hold this record are SportsFan in 2006 and UVaCavs6 in 2003. Will we need to wait another three years for someone else to tie or beat that record? The record for highest winning percentage in the regular season still belongs to 92 Coog, who was 119-31 (79.3%) in 2001. Because of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the 2001 season was shortened by a week, so that's why 92 Coog only picked 150 games that year. SLC Transplant moved into the #1 position in career winning percentage for the regular season, only .004 points ahead of Blue Bozo.

Hall of Fame Update
Two players joined the Picks Club Hall of Fame during the 2009 season: Moose and SECFball. Moose qualified for the Hall of Fame when he won his 10th Weekly Pickmeister Award, on October 17, 2009. Moose's record in that week was 13-2. SECFball qualified for the Hall of Fame when he won his second division championship. SECFball won the South division by just one game over rookie southernswami. Congratulations to the Hall of Fame Class of 2010!

Conundrum Wins March Madness Championship
Congratulations to Conundrum who won his first ever Picks Club March Madness championship in 2010. He won the championship with 121 points, which was the fewest points earned by a champion since 2006 when White Lightning won with only 101 points. Conundrum's lead was 27 points over runner-up DaCougs. Nice job, Conundrum!
mystic ken Wins Picks Club 1A Title
Just one season after winning the 1AA championship, mystic ken becomes the second player in Picks Club history to win back-to-back season titles. Damose won two straight 1A championships in 2006-07. To win the title, mystic ken had to overcome some pretty strong competition from Hoovile and SECFball.
Before the BCS championship game between Texas and Alabama, SECFball had a 3-point lead over both Hooville and mystic ken. All three players picked Alabama to win the game, so if Texas had won, SECFball would have won his first 1A championship. Hooville and mystic ken both assigned 5 points to the final game, while SECFball assigned one point to it. So after the game, SECFball fell one point behind, and Hooville and mystic ken tied for first place.
The championship had to be decided by the score picks, which were very close. Hooville had picked Alabama to win, 24-20 (-14 points), while mystic ken picked 27-23 (-12 points), which meant mystic ken's pick was only two points closer than Hooville's.
During the game, Alabama scored two late touchdowns off of Texas' turnovers, which were obviously very costly to the Longhorns. But they also prevented Hooville from winning his second 1A title. If the final score had been 24-21, Hooville's score pick would have only been one point off, and mystic ken's would have been 5 points off. But, congratulations to mystic ken on a great playoff and on winning the championship. Thanks to everyone for making this another memorable year in the Picks Club.
YCougars Wins 1AA Title
Picks Club Hall of Famer YCougars won his first 1AA playoff today, by correctly picking 9 of the last 14 bowl games. This year's bowl season was more difficult than usual, so there were a lot of players with sub-par records. In round 2, YCougars barely made the cut, with a 10-10 record, but it was just enough to get him into the third round. Congratulations to YCougars. Nice work on your bowl picks! |
