KaseyDH Wins Picks Club March Madness Championship!

Congrats to KaseyDH for winning his first ever Picks Club March Madness Championship! He now joins a very exclusive club - only 20 different players have ever won the March Madness title. Only 7 players have won it twice, and jockanddoc is the only player to win it three times. This year, KaseyDH was one of only 2 players to pick the correct champion. He also picked one of the two championship teams, as well as two of the Final Four teams, four of the Elite Eight and 12 of the Sweet Sixteen teams.

Fun Facts -
Here are some interesting tidbits going back to the last 15 March Madness contests that you might find interesting.

  1. Six times since 2011, the March Madness champion has not picked the winner of the tournament. Three times has the March Madness champion missed both Championship teams.
  2. In 2023, DrumNFeather won the March Madness championship despite only picking one Final Four team correctly and not earning any other points.
  3. In 2021, YCougars set a Picks Club record for the fewest points in the first round by a player who eventually won the March Madness picks. He scored 19 points.
  4. In 2015, Cougar in Big D was the only player to pick Duke as the champion, but he still lost the March Madness championship to YCougars. In fact, YCougars finished 23 points ahead of Big D.
  5. No March Madness winner correctly predicted all four Final Four teams, but three times has the winner predicted 3/4 Final Four teams, both Championship teams and the correct winner: Hooville in 2021, YCougars in 2021, and Bama in 2025.

Indiana Wins First Ever National Championship!

Indiana intercepted a Miami pass deep inside Hoosier territory with about 40 seconds left in the game to win their first ever national championship, by a score of 27-21. Both teams combined for 38 points in the second half, after Indiana had taken a 10-0 lead at halftime. Miami outscored Indiana 21-17 in the second half, but a blocked punt and a missed field goal in the third quarter proved to be too much for Miami to overcome. I'll have more on how that relates to Picks Club in just a minute.

First, in the 1A playoffs, Cougar in Big D won his first 1A championship in 40 years. Yes, you heard that right. His last 1A championship came in 1985. He now has a total of three 1A championships (the first one was in 1982) and one 1AA championship in 2001. "I was beginning to think the game had passed me by," he said, after the game. "The only thing that would make this better would have been if BYU had won it instead of Indiana." Congrats to everyone in the 1A playoffs on a very enjoyable playoff run.

In the 1AA playoffs, three players tied for first place, with records of 12-7: AM_Yanelli, DrumNFeather, UVaCavs6. So to crown the champion, we had to resort to score picks. AM_Yanelli picked Indiana, 37-23. This means he was a total of 12 points off the actual score of 21-21. DrumNFeather picked Indiana, 27-23, which is only 2 points off the total. UVaCavs6 wins because his score prediction was 28-21: only one point off. With this win, UVaCavs6 now has a 1AA championship to go along with his three 1A championships! Congrats UVaCavs6!

OK, so here's the really interesting part you would not have known about unless you can see everyone's picks. If Miami had been able to score a touchdown on their last drive of the game, the score would have been 28-27 for Miami over Indiana. This would mean a four-way tie with DaCougs also included, since he picked Miami, 31-27. That would mean his score would have only been 3 points off the actual score, and DrumNFeather would have been in second place, since his score prediction would have only been 5 points off (27-23 for Indiana instead of 21-28). One last thing - remember Miami doinked a field goal in the third quarter? if they had made that field goal, and if they had also scored a touchdown on that last drive, DaCougs would have had the score exactly right.

On the other hand, what if the score had been 27-24 for Indiana? Then DrumNFeather would have won, since his score pick was 27-23. But overall, what a fun game this was and a fun ending to the Picks Club's 34th season of operation. Thanks everyone for making this another great year!

Bama Wins His First March Madness Championship

Congrats to Bama who scored 150 points in the 2025 March Madness picks and claimed the championship! Bama was one of only six players who picked Florida to win the championship, and one of only 4 players who picked both teams in the championship game. In the last four rounds, Bama only missed two games. Out of all 63 games, Bama picked the winner 50 times. Congratulations on an incredible bracket!

UVaCavs6 Wins Third Career 1A Championship

Ohio State outlasted Notre Dame, 34-23 on Monday night, winning their first national championship since 2014. But more importantly, UVaCavs6 scored 75 total points in the 1A playoff, and with that, he won his third ever 1A championship! Congrats on the great win!

In the 1AA playoffs, AY clinched the championship by winning 13 of 17 games in this round. He held off strong competition from Calebsfingernails and Rich Strong. This is the second time that he has won the 1AA championship, with the first one coming in 2017. Congrats!!

Final Regular Season Standings

This year, I forgot to add the score picks to break ties. So in the Legends division, we have two co-champs: UVaCavs6 and Ezone00 tied for first place. Lovehandles won the Veterans division, and in the Starters division, AM_Yanelli and BlueCoug tied for first place.

Week 12 in the Books!

Well, we have officially come to the end of the regular season in the Picks Club - it hardly seems possible, but here we are. In Week 12, we had our regular share of upsets and strange endings, but TrojanCDR was able to win 10 games and snatch up his 3rd Weekly Pickmeister Award. Congrats!

We're going to take a week off before the playoffs start. So relax this week and enjoy the games - Round 1 starts next week.
